VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - Kalaeloa community work day

Aloha Kākou, Please join us for the next Kalaeloa community work day.

When: Saturday July 15, 2023 from 8:00am-12:00pm Where: Kalaeloa Unit, Pearl Harbor National Wildlife Refuge Complex Workday objective: Clear weeds at endangered plant restoration sites Supplies to Bring:

  • Thick soled shoes (to protect from kiawe thorns)

  • Long-sleeve T-shirt

  • Long pants

  • Hat

  • Sunblock

  • Full reusable water bottle

  • Snacks

  • Umbrella may be helpful for shade or shelter from rain

Refuge will provide: Water jug for refills, weeding tools, work gloves, trash bags, popup tent. Biosecurity: Please clean your shoes and anything you’ll be bringing onto the Refuge to prevent the spread of invasive species. Parking: There will be limited parking so please carpool if possible. There is space outside the gates and some stalls inside the Refuge. Let us know if you would like to park inside the Refuge. RSVP: To confirm your attendance, please email me at koa_matsuoka@fws.gov by Thursday, July 13th so we have a headcount. Please include the following information in your email.

  • Number of people in your party

  • Preference to park inside or outside refuge gate

  • Any allergies (i.e. stinging insects)

Directions: A parking map and directions will be sent by Thursday July 13th to those that RSVP.

New Volunteers: Please fill out volunteer form (attached) and bring a printed hard copy to avoid sending personal identifiable info (PPI) over email. Blank forms will also be provided the day of if needed.
