The Plein Air Project

From January 24 to February 28, 2023, our group of five artists — Mark N. Brown, Mary Mitsuda, Noreen Naughton, Sharon Sussman and Debbie Young — was invited to paint en plein air every Tuesday morning at James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge on the north shore of O'ahu. The Refuge was established in 1976 for the purpose of providing habitat for endangered Hawaiian waterbirds.

This exhibition consists of field paintings created at the Refuge and completed there or in the artists’ studios, as well as studio work inspired by the Refuge and other wetland habitats. This show reflects our experiences at the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge, capturing the early morning light, the sweeping wind, rain, and vistas.

Artwork will be on display at the Hawaii Pacific University Art Gallery located at 45-045 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, HI 96744.

**Open to the public on Sunday, Aug 13th thru Sept 22nd, 2023**

Gallery hours are Sunday through Saturday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. https://www.hpu.edu/cla/aclm/arts-at-hpu/art.html
